- Erasmus University: a future-defining education partnership

A future-defining education partnership
Challenge
Erasmus University sought to upgrade its studio infrastructure to produce broadcast-quality video learning materials while reducing maintenance costs and increasing system uptime.
Solution
Kinly collaborated with lecturers and students to design DIY studio booths with high-end AV technology, seamless integration, and a user-friendly recording system.
Result
The new system enables efficient AV management, reducing operational costs and downtime while enhancing the learning experience for 45,000 students.
The challenge
Erasmus University is an internationally leading research institution with more than 100-years’ experience in helping students to pursue their ambitions across wealth, health, governance and culture.
As a leader in education technology, Kinly has been Erasmus University’s trusted technology advisor for over a decade. Owing to the substantial success we’ve shared on our journey to digitising education with innovative AV technology and services, the university renewed its Kinly partnership for a further six-years in 2024.
We work alongside Erasmus University to understand its educational models and help it to identify the solutions, services and added value that help it towards achieving its aspirations to become the University of the Future. This includes expertise in software, hardware and support across classrooms, recording studios and content strategy.
The latest in a long line of projects, Erasmus University tasked Kinly’s education experts with upgrading its existing studio infrastructure to facilitate the creation of broadcast quality video learning materials. In addition, the university was seeking an innovative way of simplifying maintenance and management while saving costs and increasing uptime.
The solution
An integral component of all Kinly education projects is that everything begins with consultancy. We involved lecturers and students from Erasmus University within the discovery and design phase, resulting in an enhanced sense of trust for all parties. By working closely with the people that really matter, we drive a culture of continuous improvement through iterative AV cycles.
Our approach goes far beyond the installation of equipment. It extends to ensuring that the solutions we integrate work in perfect harmony to maximise lecturer and student satisfaction. This approach means we have a deeper understanding of market needs and primary themes.
We recently supported Erasmus University with the design and development of broadcast quality, DIY studio booths. This empowers lecturers to record their own content to support MOOCs and the growing demand for world-class, easily digestible video learning materials including lecture clips, talk shows, webinars and more.
The state-of-the-art studio consists of three Grass Valley cameras and a technical backbone of full SMPTE 2110 providing uncompressed video over IP. Three LED screens combined with LED colour panels create a more diverse background for compelling content creation.
Having this facility on-campus enables lecturers to bridge the gap between time and space, allowing students to consume content at home and at a time that suits them through a Panopto learning management system (LMS) integrated by Kinly. All recordings and live interactions are uploaded to the platform, resulting in optimal searchability and easy integration with LMS.
